John Noble is an Australia actor best known for his roles as Denethor from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Dr Walter Bishop of Fringe.
Hailing from South Australia, John was Head of Drama at Brent St. School of Arts in Sydney, between 1997 and 2000. A true thespian, John has directed over 80 plays, including Sons of Cain on London’s West End.
In Australia he is recognised for his roles on Young Lions, Home & Away, Devil’s Playground and All Saints (as Dr. John Marsden). In 2014 he also appeared on the television series Rake.
In 2002 John was launched into the spotlight on a global scale, playing Denethor in Sir Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and again in 2003 with The Return of the King.
He went on to star as Blackbeard in the series Pirate Islands: The Lost Treasure of Fiji, and played the recurring role of double agent, Anatoly Markov, on the hit series 24.
Recently, John starred as Sam Butcher in Amazon’s The Boys, and as Caliban in Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop.
John is also highly regarding his role as Dr Walter Bishop in the sci-fi drama series, Fringe. The series ran for five seasons. After leaving the show he went on to play the role of Henry Parrish on the horror series Sleepy Hollow, and starred as series regular Morland Holmes, Sherlock’s father in Elementary.
John has also lent his voice to many animated productions, including Superman: Unbound, Transformers: Prime, and recently in Star Trek: Prodigy. He also provides voice over for video games; most notably L.A. Noire and Batman: Arkham Knight.
