Speaking on ‘Radio New Zealand Today’ recently, Gemma Gracewood referred to The Vocal Collective as “the single, most magnificent thing to come out of the earthquakes”.
Now one of New Zealand’s largest contemporary choirs, the group celebrates their 14th anniversary this year. Formed to bring joy in the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquake, the group continues to uplift the community with their unique versions of contemporary favourites.
The repertoire is chosen from a wide range of genres and vocal styles such as pop, rock, jazz, musical theatre plus a few much loved classics, creating an exciting mix for performers and audiences alike. Songs from their “Great Kiwi Songbook” collection revive iconic Kiwi favourites from across the decades, including some in Te Reo M?ori.
The 90 strong ensemble, led by Artistic Director Richard Marrett, sings with great precision, passion and energy. The rich sound of so many glorious voices blending together in harmony cannot fail to impress. From lilting and harmonious ballads to rip roaring rock classics, this group commands attention and captures the imagination of their audience with each supercharged performance. Needless to say they are in demand for corporate functions, formal concerts, weddings and community events.
