Thanks to our friends at FiveEight we were given the chance to try 4A Games and Deep Silvers latest title, Metro Exodus.

Metro Exodus is the latest installment in the Metro Franchise from 4A Games and Deep Silver. Set in 2036, Metro Exodus presents Russia as a hostile and haunting nuclear wasteland. Metro Exodus has been marketed as “one of the most immersive game worlds ever created.”. This tone is set from the breathtaking opening credits, created by Elastic TV, the team behind such iconic opening sequences as Game of Thrones and Westworld. The journey so far is explained elegantly by way of train ride through changing memories and cut scenes.  This recap is super helpful if you’ve never played a Metro game before as was our experience with the game and helps establish a level of excitement for the story.

You’ll play as Artyom, a man raised underground who is determined to prove that life above ground exists, supporting characters include Anna, Artyoms wife, Colonel Miller, Anna’s father and leader of your expedition, and your friends and fellow Spartans who you will journey with across a nuclear ruined Russia through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter as you search for new life and try to stay alive along the way.

The game is unique for its combination of both linear levels and sandbox environments and the fact that despite not following an entirely linear storyline it registers your actions and generates consequences based on your choices making for a range of endings. The attention to detail when it comes to location and character and the items and monsters you encounter along the way is magnificent.

Not a game for the faint of heart the evil creatures on Moscow’s surface are genuinely terrifying if you don’t like jump scares this might not be the game for you. Similarly, if you like low effort games Metro Exodus is not for you, the game is heavily combat and stealth based and requires you to maintain your inventory and weapons meticulously. However, if you are a fan of both the horror and combat genres and like the idea of exploring a post-apocalyptic Russia you will love this game.

Metro Exodus is available now on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
